Overview and History of the Falcon 900EX EASy

The Falcon 900EX EASy is part of the Falcon 900 series of aircraft. Manufactured by Dassault Aviation, the long range jet was certified by the FAA and EASA in November 2003.

The EASy variant improves upon the previous 900EX model (along with the previous Dassault Falcon 900B, Falcon 900C, and Falcon 900DX) by having the upgraded EASy flight deck which first went into production with the smaller Falcon 2000EX EASy. Additionally, the 900EX features increased range over the previous generations.

A development of the Falcon 50 corporate jet – itself a development of the earlier Falcon 20 – Dassault officially introduced the Falcon 900EX in 1996.

The 900 series of aircraft is still in production today with the Falcon 900LX, one of the last few remaining trijet aircraft still in production.

Production of the Falcon 900EX EASy ended in 2010 when the LX entered service.

Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy Performance

The Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy is equipped with three Honeywell TFE731-60 engines, each delivering a remarkable thrust output of 15,000 lbs (6,804 kg).

When cruising at high speed, the aircraft can reach up to 440 knots (814 km/h), and during long-range cruise, it maintains a steady speed of 430 knots (796 km/h).

The Falcon 900EX EASy can soar to a maximum altitude of 51,000 feet (15,545 m), ensuring a smooth, turbulence-free flight above commercial air traffic.

This aircraft stands out for its impressive range of 4,502 nautical miles (8,338 km), enabling non-stop long-haul flights and reducing the need for inconvenient stopovers.

The takeoff distance is a mere 5,200 feet (1,585 m), while the landing distance requirement is even less, at 2,300 feet (701 m).

These figures, representative of the aircraft’s superior performance, allow access to a wider array of airports, including those with shorter runways.

It’s important to note that these performance figures represent the best-case scenario, and real-world performance can vary. For example, the Falcon 900EX is certified to land at London City Airport, an airport that has a notorious steep approach, departure, and short runway.

Factors such as weather conditions, runway surface, aircraft weight, and air traffic control can all affect the range and ground performance of the Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy.

Interior Configuration, Cabin, and Passenger Comfort

The cabin dimensions of the 900EX EASy measure 7.7 feet (2.3 m) in width, 39 feet (11.9 m) in length, and a height of 6.2 feet (1.9 m), the spacious interior actively promotes comfort and mobility.

The cabin is designed to accommodate a maximum of 16 passengers, though a typical configuration usually is a 12-passenger configuration or occasionally up to 14 passengers. This ensures each passenger has ample room for relaxation and productivity.

One of the key comfort factors of the Falcon 900EX EASy is the cabin altitude. The aircraft maintains a sea-level cabin pressure up to 25,300 feet (7,711 m), and from there, it never exceeds a maximum cabin altitude of 8,000 feet (2,438 m), contributing to decreased fatigue and a more pleasant flight experience.

The Falcon 900EX EASy cabin is not just about size and comfort—it’s also about convenience and utility. The passenger area is bathed in natural light courtesy of 24 large windows. Elegantly furnished with executive leather chairs and upholstered divans that convert into comfy beds, the aircraft interiors transform into the perfect space for restful flights.

The cabin also includes a full galley and separate enclosed lavatories for passengers and crew, reinforcing the emphasis on passenger privacy.

To further enhance the inflight experience, the cabin is equipped with high-speed WiFi, power outlets, and an airshow moving map among other amenities.

What sets the Falcon 900EX EASy apart is the 3M-manufactured thermal-acoustic insulation system, which reduces the sound pressure levels in the passenger cabin by 50 percent for an ultra-quiet environment.

Cockpit Specification

The Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy is a distinguished member of the Falcon 900EX family, boasting a state-of-the-art EASy cockpit based on the Honeywell Primus Epic system.

This digital cockpit enhances the aviation experience by ushering in a virtually paperless cockpit, a significant stride in modern aviation. The overarching objectives of the EASy cockpit are to bolster situational awareness and to alleviate cockpit workload, enhancing the efficiency of flight operations. Moreover, the enhanced avionics system helps to improve crew situational awareness.

Drawing upon the robust hardware platform of Honeywell’s renowned Primus Epic system, the EASy cockpit is a testament to the seamless blending of functionality and sophistication.

It features four 14.1-inch Primus Epic screens that adeptly display comprehensive information sourced from aircraft sensors.

These screens cover a broad spectrum of flight aspects, encompassing systems, communications, navigation, and flight management, thus ensuring superior command over the flight experience.

Aircraft Charter Cost

In North America, the estimated hourly cost of chartering this high-performance private jet is around $9,000.

However, it’s crucial to understand that this figure is an approximation that can be influenced by a range of factors.

These factors can include the trip length, the duration of the booking, the time of year, and the current market demand for private jets. Therefore, while the estimated hourly charter cost provides a useful benchmark, the actual cost may vary depending on individual flight circumstances.

Purchase Price

The Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy commanded a price of $41 million when new.

Today, the average price for a pre-owned model hovers around $12.5 million.

However, potential owners should also factor in the estimated annual ownership costs.

Flying the Falcon 900EX EASy for approximately 200 hours per year incurs an estimated annual ownership cost of around $785,000.

These costs encompass aspects like maintenance, insurance, hangarage costs, and crew salaries. Hence, while the purchase price provides an initial financial perspective, an understanding of the ongoing operational costs is crucial for a comprehensive view of owning this sophisticated aircraft.
