Overview & History

The development of the Legacy 450 began in the early 2000s by manufacturer Embraer, with the intention of creating a jet that pairs performance with ultimate comfort.

The first flight took place on December 28, 2013, receiving its Brazilian type certificate (ANAC) on 11 August 2015 and FAA certification on 31 August 2015, with EASA certification shortly thereafter.

Embraer announced delivery of the first aircraft to LMG, LLC on 22 December 2015.

The 450 and 500 Legacy models proved to be extremely popular, offering customers a unique blend of performance, luxury, and exceptional value for money.

They have since been replaced by the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 (Embraer introduced in 2018) aircraft which are an evolution of these two aircraft.

So much so that it is possible to upgrade Legacy 450 and 500 models to almost the same standard as the newer Praetor aircraft.

For example, one of the key upgrades is the increased fuel capacity that the Praetor features over the outgoing Legacy aircraft.

Embraer Legacy 450 Performance

The Legacy 450 is powered by two Honeywell HTF7500E turbofans, delivering a robust thrust output of 13,080 lbf (5,935 kg).

Thanks to the HTF7500E engines, the aircraft is capable of reaching a high-speed cruise of 462 knots (855 km/h), while its long-range cruising speed stands at 436 knots (807 km/h). Of course, flying at the max cruise speed will decrease the range significantly.

The Legacy 450 can climb to a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet (13,716 meters), which is above most commercial air traffic and weather formations, enabling a smoother, more enjoyable flight.

In optimal conditions, the Legacy 450 has a maximum range of 2,904 nautical miles (5,378 km). Of course, this is assuming National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) IFR reserves with four passengers and two pilots onboard.

The aircraft’s range means that it can comfortably cruise non-stop from New York to Los Angeles. However, crossing the Atlantic from London to New York is not quite possible.

In terms of ground performance, the Legacy 450 requires a takeoff distance of 3,907 feet (1,191 meters), while its landing distance is an impressively short 2,090 feet (637 meters).

It is important to note that these figures represent the best-case scenario. Real-world performance can be influenced by a variety of factors including weather conditions, aircraft weight, and runway length. Therefore, actual range and ground performance may vary.

Interior and Cabin

The Embraer Legacy 450 private jet is not only a performance powerhouse but also a testament to luxury and comfort.

Measuring 24 feet (7.3 meters) in length, 6.8 feet (2.1 meters) in width, and a height of 6 feet (1.8 meters), the interior of the Legacy 450 offers ample space for its passengers.

The cross-section of the fuselage is in fact the same as the larger Legacy 500.

On entering the cabin, the first thing you’ll notice is the flat floor and six feet of headroom, providing plenty of space to move around comfortably.

The aircraft is designed to seat a maximum of nine passengers, although it typically carries seven.

The seating arrangement is a highlight, featuring luxurious, fully reclining leather seats that integrate seamlessly with the cabin.

Each seat is strategically placed next to a window, allowing passengers to enjoy the aerial view while reveling in the lap of luxury.

The cabin pressurization system allows the aircraft to maintain a maximum cabin altitude of 5,800 feet (1,767 meters) and can maintain a sea level cabin up to 27,050 feet (8,245 meters), significantly reducing travel fatigue.

Coupled with state-of-the-art noise-reducing technologies, the low cabin altitude creates a serene environment that allows passengers to arrive at their destination well-rested.

Embraer has also made an effort to include a state-of-the-art cabin management system, thanks to the Honeywell Ovation Select cabin management system

Embraer has made managing the cabin environment a breeze. The unique upper tech panel, a feature exclusive to Embraer, is a convenient touchscreen that allows passengers to control the entire cabin and monitor their flight’s progress.

With its intuitive design, the overhead touchscreen panel ensures that you have all the relevant information at a glance and control over your environment.

Legacy 450 Cockpit

Upfront the Legacy 450 has all the equipment that you would expect from a modern business jet.

Developed with a full fly-by-wire system and paired with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, pilots are able to safely and efficiently maneuver the aircraft.

The synthetic vision guidance system (SVGS) allows autopilot-flown instrument approaches down to 150 ft (46 m).

As a result, the controls allow for a blend of performance, safety, comfort, and fuel efficiency.

As is common with aircraft in the higher-end segments, the Embraer Legacy 450 boasts an integrated Head-Up Display (HUD ). The HUD provides pilots with unprecedented levels of situational awareness.

Built with Embraer’s traditional dark, quiet, and uncluttered cockpit design philosophy, pilots are able to operate with less fatigue and a lower workload.

Charter Cost of the Legacy 450

The Embraer Legacy 450 comes with an estimated charter cost of around $3,800 per hour in North America.

It’s essential to understand that this is a base estimate and the actual cost may vary greatly.

A multitude of factors can influence this cost, including the trip length, the duration of the stay, and the current fuel price, among other considerations.

Aspects such as aircraft positioning, passenger count, and even the time of year can play a role in the final charter cost.

Purchase Price and Operating Costs

The price for a brand-new Legacy 450 was approximately $15.25 million.

Naturally, only a pre-owned example can be purchased today. Currently, the Legacy 450 has an average pre-owned value of $11.5 million.

However, it’s crucial to understand that ownership is about more than just the initial purchase price. The estimated annual ownership cost, factoring in 200 hours of flight time per year, is roughly $660,000.

These costs can include everything from maintenance and insurance to fuel and hangar fees.
